Most spices don't keep for more than a few months. It’s best to buy spices in small quantities from a trusted supplier to ensure freshness & volatility.  The best indications for optimal freshness are the color & aroma.  If the spice lacks either, it’s too old to use.


Take time to explore how complex flavors you introduce into your cooking transform your creations.  There’s no shortcut for experience, practice will translate into depth of flavor.
