Turmeric Smoothie

“Tastes like fall in a cup”, a direct quote from our staff & friends at Pondicheri who were here during this smoothie's testing! The fresh turmeric is an anti-inflammatory while the soaked almonds are easier to digest than raw almonds (and makes it easier to peel the skins off!). 

makes ~1.5 cups

ingredients

2 inch piece of fresh turmeric root

2 Tbsp almonds

2 bananas

½ tsp cinnamon

pinch salt

1 cup water (or coconut water)

 

instructions

  1. Soak the almonds in ¼ cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Peel and discard the skin, save the soaking water. Peel the turmeric and slice. 
     
  2. In a blender combine the turmeric, almonds, bananas, cinnamon, salt, reserved water & 1 cup of liquid. Blend until smooth. 

ideas / variations

  • Top with fresh fruit, jam, syrup or nut butter! 
  • Use frozen bananas to get a colder, thicker smoothie.
